Jim discusses how he made a choice to not follow in the footsteps of the males in his genetic line and go down the path to long term health, both physically and emotionally. Jim discusses his own weight loss journey, how working on his physical and emotional self has changed his life, and how he ended up being inspired to help others change their lives by becoming a Certified Personal Trainer. In episode 22 of The Warrior Wellness Podcast, former Army Captain Stephanie Lincoln sits down with Tom Slatterly, Command Sgt. Major (ret.).Tom served in the Army for 25 years, 20 of those years were spent in the military’s most secretive and elite Special Operations unit, Delta Force. As an Operator and CSM, Tom fought in and lead countless high profile military missions including Operation Red Dawn (Saddam Hussein’s capture) and the Battle of Mogadishu (Black Hawk Down) which was the longest sustained firefight since Vietnam. That 18-hour firefight ended with Tom, along with several of his team mates, running the Mogadishu Mile to safety. Although the physical, mental, and emotional toll of war had compounded over the years, Tom never faced his Post-Traumatic Stress symptoms and in 2013 he nearly ended his life. Had it not been a text from his now wife, Jen, he would have joined the 22 veterans who commit suicide every single day.
Tom discusses his healing journey and how he made every mistake along the way and through experience, research and speaking with thousands of service members and veterans, he and his wife created the All Secure Foundation. They put together a unique team with the ability to raise awareness to the issues military veterans and their family members struggle with on a daily basis. Tm and his team at the All Secure Foundation help reconnect families who have struggled through the tough times of military life and transition.

Post Deployment Recovery

Thursday Nov 12, 2020
Sean Tobiaz Ambriz is a two Bronze Stars with V recipient, Army SSG Military Policeman with the 984th Military Police Company, and the author of the book, Ghosts of the Valley. In his book, Sean gives a full spectrum recount of the incidents that took place during his deployment in Afghanistan, and the recovery process that became necessary upon return to the peace of home. Sean hopes his book serves as a benefit to soldiers who have not yet deployed, civilians who struggle to understand the average combat veteran, and the soldiers who have redeployed that still struggle in their recovery process. The book is not meant to glorify war, but to expose the horrors of it. Ghosts of the Valley also provides a comprehensive, and up-to-date as of the publication, list of resources for those struggling with PTSD, or those who simply need help.
